It's over one week already since I hung up the lanyard, took off the Datto shades and put the flashing Datto Yo-Yo into a box. Yes, one week already since my final day at Datto.
When I told people my plans to leave I got lots of questions such as :
Why leave such a great company?
Why give up such an amazing job?
Where are you going to get your t-shirts from now on*?
Can I have your chair?
Who's picking up this bar tab?
There are no simple answers to these questions, I had nowhere else to go, I just felt that I needed a break. Don't get me wrong Datto is a great place to work, lots has changed in the 3 1/2 years since I joined. There have been some amazing highs such as the Vista acquisition and Autotask merger, but some really sad times when my friend and colleague Andrew Stuart passed away.
Contrary to popular belief though, I've not retired. I'm just taking some time to think about the next chapter for me. I've already had some interesting conversations and I intend to keep that going. Over the next few weeks I'm going to ask MSPs and Vendors their thoughts about the industry and then hopefully pinpoint where I will fit into that vision going forward.
If I send you a survey or give you a call, I'd really appreciate it if you could give me a few minutes of your time. I love the MSP space and I am sure I will land back into it sometime soon.
Anyway, must go, I need to know what Dion Dublin makes of this 2 bedroom semi in Stoke on Trent.
