As we start to slow down for the Christmas period, I began to reflect a little on the last 12 months and my relationship with my phone.
As I'm sure you know, I work for an American company, and one on the West Coast so they are 7 hours behind where I am in the UK. The first thing to say is that JumpCloud is the most respectful of companies when it comes to the time-zone issue - I am never expected to attend meetings out of my working hours, and all calls are recorded so I can catch up the following day.
However, I still have a problem with email on my phone. I first wrote about it way back in 2019 and my feelings haven't changed.
As you may have guessed I now have it back on my phone and I check it into the evening, check it when out with friends etc and it's a distraction.
So, I was thinking again, does it need to be there? Is anything so urgent that it needs my attention at 10pm? This applies to various channels, email, Slack etc.
So, once again I've decided to remove these apps from my phone - at least over the holiday period, but maybe for good. This way I can hopefully stay in the moment rather than being distracted by things that aren't time critical.
Bye Bye - Email
What do you think? Do you still use email on the go? PS: I still also think email is terrible as a task manager, but now you Todoist instead of Things.
